Acrylamide in food possibly increases risk of endometrial + ovarian cancer

November 16, 2007
The intake of acrylamide through food possibly increases the risk of endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer. The paper in which this association is described will be published shortly in the scientific journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention.
Janneke Hogervorst , working at the Department of Epidemiology at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, and colleagues investigated this relationship within the Netherlands Cohort Study on diet and cancer.
It is the first observation of an association between dietary acrylamide intake and cancer in humans. Therefore, it is important that these results are corroborated/confirmed by other studies, before far-reaching conclusions can be drawn.
