Potato starch manufacturer AVEBE has announced the company will start this year's starch production on August 26. That is a week later than originally scheduled.

The cold and wet spring, followed by a dry summer (July) have resulted in a slow development of the potato crop. The crop is one to two weeks behind its normal development, sampling has showed.

Starting the campaign a week later enables the potao crop to catch up and starch content will increase.

The growing conditions in August and September will determine the final yield. Also the conditions during harvest will be relevant for the total volume of the crop.

AVEBE factories in Ter Apelkanaal (Netherlands) and in Dallmin (Germany) will be the first starch factories to start production A week later, potato starch production will start in Gasselternijveen (Netherlands) and Lüchow (Germany).
