Rain ruins South Australia's potato harvest

Abril 26, 2011
It's proved a difficult summer for potato growers in South Australia, with high rainfall ruining their crop.

The drought years were boom times for growers with irrigation.

But now it's a very different story.

Potato grower Terry Buckley says he's havested a lot of sub-standard potatoes.

"You've got funny shapes, bump and knobs some that stick up through the ground that are green on the end, so you have quality issues.

"You have some that go rotten and break down, but we are missing 20 per cent of our potatoes, the yield is not there because they didn't grow as well after they got wet."
