The P.E.I. Potato Board is expecting an average crop this year because hot, dry weather in August reduced yields.

Farmer Randy Visser, who farms about 550 acres, said he has fewer potatoes than he had hoped, but that the dry weather means the crop is of an excellent quality.

"A few years ago we had some rot issues and whatever from heavy, heavy rains in August but this year has been very good,"he said.

Visser says the dry conditions mean the potatoes should do well in storage.

Though yields on his farm aren't quite as good as hoped for, especially with Russets, he says a shorter supply of potatoes around the world should drive up prices.
