US Potato markets start strong

Septiembre 09, 2008
Thanks in part to a large percentage of high-quality, No. 1-graded product, markets for new-crop russet potatoes are continuing where markets left off at the end of the storage season: red hot.

On Sept. 9, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported prices of $25 for 50-pound cartons of norkotahs size 50-80 from Idaho, up from $8-8.50 last year at the same time. Size 90s were $20, up from $7, and 100s were $18, up from $6.50.

Prices in Washington, Oregon and Wisconsin were lower on Sept. 9, with 50-80s selling for $20, 90s for $16-18 and 100s for $15-16.
