The cases all revolve around allegations that McDonald's fries contain gluten, a wheat protein. McDonald's has long contended their fries do not contain gluten. Nonetheless, more than fifty families across the nation pushed forward with lawsuits against the fast food giant claiming the fries made them or their children sicker.
The details of the settlement have not been disclosed. Court records only indicate the resolutions were mutually agreeable. Those five cases have been dismissed because an agreement was reached. Whether the amount was financial has not been disclosed. "The cases have been amicably resolved,"says West Palm Beach attorney Brian Smith.
McDonald's had argued all along its fries were not responsible for aggravating any medical issues. Andrea Lovario is with the American Celiac Disease Alliance in Virginia. She believes McDonald's has done the right thing and publicly disclosed everything about this case.
Fifty cases still remain nationwide against McDonald's. Twelve of those are part of a federal class action lawsuit.
