Potato stocks in Idaho on June 1, 2023 totaled 19.0 million cwt. Disappearance of the Idaho crop to date was 101.7 million cwt. June 1 potato stocks in Oregon totaled 2.80 million cwt. Disappearance to date was 22.1 million cwt. In Washington, June 1 potato stocks totaled 13.0 million cwt. Disappearance to date totaled 77.4 million cwt. Nationally, potatoes held in storage by the major potato States on June 1, 2023 totaled 54.5 million cwt, down 3 percent from June 1, 2022. Potatoes in storage accounted for 14 percent of the 2023 production, virtually unchanged from a year earlier.
The indicated season to date disappearance, at 338 million cwt, was down 4 percent from the same period last year. Season to date shrink and loss, at 21.6 million cwt, was down 1 percent from the same time last year.
Processors in Idaho used 62.1 million cwt of potatoes for the season. Malheur County, Oregon used 8.47 million cwt of potatoes for the season. The combined Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon usage was down 2 percent from June 1, 2022.
In Washington, 54.2 million cwt of potatoes had been used by processors for the season. In the other parts of Oregon, 26.0 million cwt of potatoes had been processed.
The combined Washington and other Oregon usage was down 6 percent from the previous year. Processors in the 8 States used 187 million cwt of potatoes for the season, down 4 percent from June 2022.
