三月 01, 2012
Bintje, a classic amongst the potato varieties was chosen to be potato of the year by a panel of judges consisting of eight representatives of various environment, consumer and grower organisations. Gert Lindemann, the minister of Food, Agriculture, Consumer Protection and Land Development of the German Federal State Lower Saxony recently announced the result at the Bioland stand at the fair 'BioFach' in Nürnberg.

Bintje was grown in the Netherlands for the first time in 1905. In 1910 it was already popular and is known for its creamy, mild taste. In Europe the variety mainly became popular in the seventies and eighties, as it became known that it is valuable for preparing chips.

The distinction has been handed out annually since 2006. Up to now the winners were Blauer Schwede (2006), Linda (2007), Bamberger Hörnchen (2008), Adretta (2009), Sieglinde (2010) and Ora (2011).
