Snyder's of Hanover gets approval to buy Jay's potato chips

Jays Potato Chips is closing its South Side plant, effective today, and taking 220 jobs with it.

The 80-year-old company, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Oct. 11, received bankruptcy court approval Tuesday to sell its assets for $24.8 million to Hanover, Penn.-based Snyder's of Hanover Inc., which was identified in court papers as Jays Acquisition Inc., a Jays spokesman said.

The sale means the closing of the company's plant at 825 E. 99th St.
