From Sorting to Packaging: DKHV Training Enhances Knowledge on Potato Quality

What defines a high-quality, fresh potato, and how can quality be assessed upon receipt? QS specialists from Kaufland's logistics centers found answers to these and other questions during a hands-on training session by the German Potato Trade Association (DKHV) in November 2024. 

Wild GmbH in Eppingen, a DKHV member company, hosted the event. Participants deepened their knowledge of all crucial steps, from sorting to packaging, aiming to ensure the highest quality standards throughout the supply chain. 

The training consisted of both theoretical and practical elements. 

In the theoretical part, participants were introduced to basic knowledge about potatoes, common diseases and pests, as well as national and international trade agreements. Special emphasis was placed on evaluating quality parameters upon receipt. 

During the practical part, participants were able to apply the theoretical knowledge to real-life examples during a facility tour. The focus was particularly on identifying and addressing defects that could impact the marketability and quality of the potatoes. 

Thomas Herkenrath, President of the DKHV:
