Here is a sneak peek into one of the many test fields Solynta is currently harvesting. They will be assessing the quality of the tubers, tuber size, dry matter composition, taste, robustness and many other important traits per variety.

They use this data to identify the best new hybrids for their markets and to determine their breeding focus for the coming seasons.

Solynta breeds their new varieties using non-GMO hybrid breeding, which means that they are cross-breeding selected elite parent lines to create new varieties with robust and desirable traits.

Their focus is to create new varieties that will be disease-free and have the robustness to grow with considerably less to no agricultural chemicals.

This is one of the ways they are paving the road to more sustainable potato growing practices while improving producer economics and providing communities with nutritious potatoes.
