Irish Farmers Association (IFA) reports improving potato retail demand and consumption
The Irish Farmers Association reports that Retail demand for potatoes and consumption is improving this week. Demand and consumption should continue to do increase upon the return of schools this week following the summer break. New season Rooster continues to come onto the market as it is fit.
There are reports that’s yields of later planted crops could be quite variable, especially those planted with home saved seed.
In the United Kingdom high tuber numbers on many crops are restricting the development of bold tubers. Potato growers are often having to irrigate to lift.
Irrigating before burn down has also been necessary to reduce Dry Matter levels. Quality issues including bruising are more common recently, often on M.Piper and Whites and has led to rejection.
