Avebe’s Sustainable Plant-Based Packaging & Building Solutions at European Coatings Show

Abril 02, 2023
Avebe makes innovative ingredients derived from potatoes, which they use to create unique solutions for the food, pet food and industrial such as building, and packaging industries. From March 28th to March 30th this year in Nürnberg, they were showcased a range of their plant-based potato building and packaging solutions at the European Coatings Show.

The European Coatings Show is the leading exhibition for the international coating and paint industry and is held every two years. By presenting our potato-based products at this prominent event, Avebe wanted to highlight how 100% plant-based potato additives can contribute to a more sustainable world.

They also aimed to show attendees that the use of more sustainable additives does not have to compromise on the performance of their products. We can support them to meet growing consumer demand for sustainable products without compromising on quality.

Many of Avebe’s building and packaging solutions were displayed over the course of the show, with a particular spotlight being placed on their Casucol™ and Solvitose Greenmelt™ products.

Casucol™: the cost-effective and versatile starch-based thickener

Bringing sustainability to the building industry, Casucol™ is an extremely cost-effective and versatile starch-based thickener for mineral binders based on gypsum or cement.

It allows users to replace more expensive building ingredients with low dosages of starch, and still obtain the required thickening effect. It also reduces trowel stickiness and increases adhesion to the substrates.

Various grades are available, for both manual and machine applications, and as Casucol™ is plant-based and more sustainable than alternatives which will help to reduce the user’s CO2 footprint. Casucol™ has excellent workability in tile adhesives, plaster, and other applications, to perfect anti-sag/anti-slip.

Solvitose Greenmelt™: the 100% biodegradable alternative for hotmelt adhesives

Solvitose Greenmelt™, the other product they were being highlighting during the show, is a 100% biodegradable alternative for hotmelt adhesives. This starch-based adhesive can contribute to a more sustainable packaging industry, with enhanced performance.

It is a very fast-setting and flexible adhesive which exceeds the setting times of synthetic copolymer adhesives. Solvitose Greenmelt™ is 100% plant-based, reduces the users’ energy consumption , and allows them to produce completely biodegradable or compostable packaging.
