Dutch Potato starch cooperative Royal Avebe started buying green energy from its own members: David Fousert, CEO of Royal Avebe, and Avebe member Erik Emmens from Zeijen signed a contract for the purchase of Guarantees of Origin (GoOs). With these GoOs, Avebe obtains certificates that further green Avebe's electricity consumption. From now on, this is also possible with GoOs that are produced by our own members. A great step in making Avebe more sustainable!

David Fousert:

"Avebe wants to further green its electricity consumption in order to meet the goals in our sustainability strategy. We already purchase GoOs on the market, but how nice is it that we now also obtain them from our own members? A first step has been taken and we hope more members will follow."
A GoO is proof of sustainably produced electricity, for example with solar or wind energy. Many Avebe members have solar panels on their roofs to make their own businesses more sustainable.

If they have green energy left over, they can sell it to other parties who can use it to make their electricity consumption more sustainable. A survey that Avebe conducted among its members last year showed that there is interest in selling GoOs to Avebe.

Erik Emmens:

" As an entrepreneur and as a member of Avebe I am happy with this sale. I find it a challenge as members to jointly achieve the sustainability objectives at our companies and those of our cooperative. In addition, with the sale of GoOs to Avebe, we keep the money within the cooperative and we all benefit from it in the end. A win-win situation and the more members that participate, the better!."
Several members have now indicated that they want to sell their GOs to Avebe.
