David Thompson Leads World Potato Congress Inc.

David Thompson has recently been appointed President and CEO of World Potato Congress Inc, (WPC Inc) an organization headquartered in Charlottetown, PEI, Canada and dedicated to promoting the potato industry world-wide.

Dave has forty years experience in the North American and Global Potato Industry.

He has been a member of the Board of Directors of WPC Inc since 2000. He served as Vice President before accepting his current position.

“I look forward to the challenges of leading such a dynamic organization,” said Thompson. “I believe we must ramp up our efforts to position WPC Inc as a relevant and significant player in the global potato industry,” he asserted.

After graduating from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Dave began his career in agriculture in the 1970’s and, in the succeeding 35 years, provided marketing and technical support to Canadian and US potato growers, where he initiated many stewardship programs as Field Marketing Specialist with Syngenta Crop Protection.

In retirement Dave continues his stewardship work serving on numerous agricultural organizations including;the Potato Association of North America, the Potato Marketing Association of North America, the Canadian Association of Agricultural Retailers, the Canadian Horticultural Council and the Prince Edward Island Grain Elevator Corporation.

In the community Dave has been an active member of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation Board, the Rotary Club of Charlottetown, K-40, the Chamber of Commerce and Ducks Unlimited.
