New Potato Specialties and Appetizer Plant to be built in Plover

Junio 09, 2009
A food processing plant slated to open this fall in the village of Plover (Wisconsin) is about to receive another financial shot in the arm.

The Portage County Economic Development and Finance committees Monday approved a $400,000 federal economic development loan for the plant, operated under Jaytina LLC.

Led by local businessman Jay Arend, the company applied for the loan through the state's Community Development Block Grant program for economic development. Distributed to states by the federal government, the money provides low-interest loans for companies seeking to create jobs.

Construction of the 100,000-square-foot plant has already begun and should be completed by October. The $8 million facility is expected to employ about 40 people. Plans are to expand that number to 100 within three years.

Arend said the plant will produce specialty potato products and appetizers. He said he picked Plover because of the success he has had with other business ventures in the area.
