Japanese snack maker Calbee will build a factory in South Korea to meet the soaring consumer appetite for its potato chips in that country.

In South Korea, Nongshim Co.’s Sumi Potato Chip Honey-Mustard set a new record for domestic snack sales with 3.6 million bags sold in the first month, the Korean snack company announced.

Calbee Inc. said Tuesday it will set up in June a joint venture with Haitai Confectionery &Food Co. of South Korea that will make potato chips and other snacks in the country.
