The Griffin's Food Company is a biscuit, snack food and confectionery manufacturer operating in New Zealand. The company has sales of approximately NZD 300 million (USD 190 million).
The company is owned by Universal Robina Corp (URC), a leading food and beverage company in the Philippines. URC bought the company in July 2014 from Pacific Equity Partners (PEP) for NZD 700 million (USD 650 million)
The URC acquisition will provide the company an increasing market in the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and China, Griffin’s said in a statement.
PEP invested NZD 180 million (USD 114 million) into the company operations during its eight-year ownership, creating two manufacturing centres in Auckland and buying the Nice and Natural business.
During that time, exports have grown and Griffin’s products are now sold in more than 20 countries.
Griffin’s was founded in Nelson in 1864 by John Griffin. Previous owners include Kraft Nabisco (US) for 30 years from the 1960's, Danone (France) for 16 years from the 1990's, and PEP for the past eight years.
Griffin's savory snacks are sold under the brands ETA and Kettle Chip Company.
