Bergia Frites B.V. is a Dutch manufacturer of frozen parfried french fries and potato specialities. Bergia also provides tailor made solutions for food-service and retail as well as the food production industry.
Bergia is a family-owned company. In 1931, Harry Meeuwissen founded Fa. Meeuwissen in his hometown of Sint Odiliënberg, Limburg province, The Netherlands.
The potato and egg trades were prominent at the time. In the mid-1960s, the company began processing potatoes, producing the first boxes of pre-fried chilled potato chips. In the early 1970s, the company relocated to an industrial area that is now part of the city of Rochester.
The first automatic production line was implemented, and potato chip processing became the primary, and then exclusive, business. Bergia Frites is the new company name. In the mid-1980s, the manufacture of frozen potato chips began to supplement pre-fried potato chips and enhance overall output and efficiency.
The company was able to expand into new export markets for frozen potato products. Finally, in 2011, production of pre-fried potato chips ceased in favor of frozen products.
