Potato trouble in Norway

Impression of the Jaeren Region - Norway's Food Basket

In Norway, farmers in the Jæren region, south of Stavanger, fear that their potato harvest is in danger, following unusually heavy rainfall this spring..

The fields have been too wet for the farmers to get the last third of the seed potatoes into the ground. Normally this work is completed before May 17th.

We have never before put potatoes into the groud in June, and this is all very frustrating. We are now wondering if time is running out for us, says potato farmer Bjarte Nærland to NRK.

There is also fear that the potatoes already in the ground will rot, because of all the water.
