McCain Foods announces layoffs in P.E.I.

The company will reduce the number of shifts after the Labour Day weekend.

"We are facing significant competitive issues right now, largely because of the dollar,"said plant manager Jamie MacKenzie. "Customers are looking for lower-cost producers and that has weakened demand for the products we produce here on P.E.I."

The plant's workforce is currently 192.
