Twin City Foods sells potato plant to Conagra

Twin City Foods Inc., Washington's largest vegetable packer, has shed its potato-processing division as a response to increasing consolidation in the industry. On Oct. 19, the Stanwood-based company formally stopped turning potatoes into french fries and hash browns at its former plant in Prosser, Wash. The company sold the facility to Conagra, of Omaha, Neb., which according to press reports will continue operating the plant.

John Lervick, president and chief operating officer of Twin City Foods, said his company decided to sell because its sole potato processing plant in Washington couldn't match the volumes of large competitors here including Conagra, Simplot and McCain Foods. He declined to disclose the sale price.
