California ranks 9^th compared to the other potato producing states with 3% of the total US production. Potatoes are grown year round in California due to the state's unique geography and climate.
 There are 4 major potato growing regions in California:
 

• Klamath/Tulelake Basin in Siskiyou and Modoc Counties (fresh, processing, seed)


• The Delta Basin in San Joaquin County (emphasis on seed potatoes)


• Kern and Los Angeles Counties (fresh, chipping)


• The desert and mountain valleys of Imperial, Riverside and San Diego Counties (fresh)

California is also the second largest grower of sweet potatoes in the United States.
