"Nourishing our future” is the theme for the World Potato Congress 2009 (WPC 2009), with a focus around the nutritional and sustainable aspects of the potato. Chairman of the Potato Product Group of Horticulture New Zealand, Terry Olsen said that planning for the first South Pacific Congress was well underway.
WPC 2009 is being hosted by the Potato Product Group of Horticulture New Zealand and is expecting more than 500 delegates from developing and developed countries such as Australia, the UK, Canada, China and India. Growers, packers, traders, processors and researchers are expected to attend.The Congress, to be held at the Christchurch Convention Centre from 22 to 25 March 2009, promises an outstanding lineup of speakers who will cover a wide variety of topics including crop management, understanding value chains, the potato plant, the products, environment and energy, food processing, food safety and quality assurance, tools and technologies and customer assurance.
As well as the speakers, a variety of sessions and seminars facilitated by industry leaders, and scientific dialogues will be offered. Delegates will have opportunities to visit local potato growing and packing facilities in the Canterbury region.
