Q&A: Ralph Alvarez, president and chief operating officer of McDonald's Corp. on diversity

In 2003 and 2004, the fast-food giant ranked No. 1 in Fortune Magazine's listing of "Top 50 Companies for Diversity."In 2006 and 2007, Latina Style magazine called McDonald's "Number One Company for Latinas to Work."

Ralph Alvarez, president and chief operating officer of McDonald's Corp., was in town Friday for a speech at The City Club of Cleveland. He sat down beforehand to discuss the benefits and challenges related to diversity in the fast-food industry.

As a former em ployee of both Burger King and Wendy's, Alvarez said that when it comes to diversity, he can attest firsthand that "McDonald's is by far the leader."
