februari 05, 2013

ODENBERG and BEST, part of TOMRA Sorting Solutions, will showcase different systems from their market-leading sensor-based optical sorters. The newly formed company exhibits for the first time together in Germany, showcasing a Field Potato Sorter (FPS), Genius belt sorter and Primus Gemini sorter.

TOMRA Sorting Solutions has unified two champions to become undoubtedly the preferred supplier for the food market's sensor-based sorting and peeling needs. ODENBERG and BEST have created an invincible alliance when it comes to delivering sorting, safety and quality solutions throughout the process chain, as well as solutions for peeling and process analytics.

After acquiring BEST, TOMRA Sorting Solutions now has more than 6,500 machines installed worldwide in the food market. Customers are reassured by the company’s even more comprehensive support and service network, close to its customers. TOMRA Sorting Solutions now also offers wider segment or application coverage and expertise, as well as boasting the leading sector experts and knowledge in research and development. This will enable the company to continue producing efficient, reliable state-of-the-art systems and customized solutions. In addition, the company has eight test and demonstration centers worldwide, where customers can trial their own products in its systems.

The FPS, Field Potato Sorter is our first offering into the unwashed potato market. The machine uses unique multi spectral near infra-red technology to remove soil clods, stones and rotten potatoes, in addition to the foreign material commonly found in fields from freshly harvested potatoes. The machine can be applied to different types of unwashed potatoes, Harvested White, Harvested Brown, Harvested Redskin, etc…

Replacing difficult-to-recruit human labor currently needed to clean up the product stream going into storage, the Field Potato Sorter is compact and available in various widths, to suit typical sorting capacity requirements of up to 80,000 kgs/hr. It is also robust, weather-proof and easy for farmworkers to operate. The sorter is designed to fit existing grading equipment or be used as a standalone unit and can operate on harvested potato crop before and after storage. The system also provides online potato size data for logging in addition to sorter operating information.

By installing this machine, potato processing and harvesting companies will be able to significantly reduce labour and storage costs, improve the product quality and increase yield.

The Genius Spinach Sorter provides an answer to the specific needs of the industrial spinach industry for the sorting of whole spinach leaves. Introducing innovations on both the mechanical (spreading of the product) and optical (stateof-the art laser technology) part, this sorting machine guarantees a total inspection of each single spinach leaf at a high capacity. It is a cost-effective solution which combines a revolutionary infeed system with an optimal detection and removal of foreign material and discolorations in one single machine. Furthermore, it stands out from the competition being user-friendly, calibration-free and easy to integrate in different positions of a processing line.

The Genius Spinach sorter has an innovative infeed design that addresses one of the major issues for the spinach industry and thus separates itself from the competition: a superior product spreading without clumping. Using a cascade infeed shaker with a special stroke followed by an acceleration belt, the product continues its trajectory onto the Genius sorter which itself has an increased belt speed.

All these modifications to the infeed assembly guarantee an optimal spreading of the product so that each single leaf can be inspected at a high capacity which was never achieved before: the Genius Spinach Sorter is able to process up to 9 tons of whole leaf spinach per hour.

Optically, a combination of several lasers is used to detect and remove defects such as insects, bugs, twigs,... that don't contain chlorophyll. Our unique and patented FLUO lasers are able to measure the chlorophyll content of a spinach leaf in order to create a larger contrast between good and bad product. This results in a higher sorting efficiency with a resolution up to 1 millimeter. Furthermore, the machine is easy to integrate and can be installed before or after the first washer.
