EU potato production: downward trend but uptick in 2023
In 2023, the EU harvested 48.3 million tons of potatoes, a slight increase from 2022, but 36.7% less than in 2000. Germany, France, and the Netherlands accounted for over half of the production.

By country, Germany was the largest potato producer in the EU in 2023 (11.6 million tons, 24.0% of the EU total), followed by France (17.9%) and the Netherlands (13.4%). Together, these three countries represented the majority (55.4%) of the potatoes harvested in the EU in 2023.
Few EU farms produce organic potatoes. In 2020, there were 9.1 million farms in the EU, of which 1 million produced potatoes.
In 2020, 25,000 farms produced potatoes using organic production methods, equivalent to just 2.5% of all potato-producing farms in the EU. Austria had the highest proportion of organic potato farms (25.6%).
