OptiCor - the most efficient iceberg corer

Sormac is proud to present the OptiCor at this year’s Fruit Logistica. This machine is the efficient solution for coring heads of iceberg lettuce. The following features ensure a perfectly cored product.

Unique features:

  • Coring from the bottom
  • Adjustable coring depth
  • Smart digital control panel

100% separation

Jeroen Thijssen, R&D Manager at Sormac:

"The machine is unique in that the coring mechanism is located below the product. This guarantees a 100% separation of the product and the waste stream. To make this possible, we’ve developed a targeting system with a camera. Aided by a monitor, the operator easily positions the crop within the set tolerance level. After this, the head is perfectly cored and divided into 2, 4 or 8 pieces."
Efficient and effective

The OptiCor is able to core 60 heads per minute. It only requires a single operator; otherwise the machine is fully automatic.

The system determines whether the core of the crop is centered correctly using image analysis, and then confirms this with a red or green signal on the monitor. Because the core is removed from the bottom, any risk of cores ending up with the good product is eliminated.

Jeroen Thijssen:

"Together with our team of software engineers, a system has been developed that sets the coring depth as favorably as possible. It allows the machine to achieve a yield of more than 95%."
Another big advantage is that all knives of the coring unit as well as the optional sub-unit can be changed within a few minutes.

Designed according to Sormac standards

The OptiCor is constructed according to European (EHEDG) hygiene guidelines. The machine is made entirely of stainless steel sheet metal, such that the parts are easy to clean.

The design includes an ergonomic working height. The screen is adjustable, making it easy for anyone to operate. In short, this machine was built according to the quality standards you expect from Sormac, and attention was paid to every detail of its design.
