Two hand grenades found at PAS Grantham Potato factory

June 17, 2008
Workers at a potato factory found two hand grenades while they were clearing out machinery. Police were called to PAS Grantham Ltd at Easton, near Grantham, after workers discovered one explosive device.
Staff removed the grenade and placed it in a bucket of water well away from the building. The factory was evacuated and a bomb disposal team from Nottingham arrived at about noon. After examining the device they concluded that it was a "concrete-filled grenade"and therefore safe.
Then at about 2pm a further call came in from the factory - another grenade had been found. Officers advised staff to leave it in place, evacuate immediately and wait for the bomb disposal unit to be recalled. After examining the second grenade, the bomb disposal concluded it could be live and was therefore too dangerous to transport on the public highway.
