Boise McDonald's gives out free fries to honor JR Simplot

June 02, 2008
To honor the man responsible for bringing the frozen French fry to the masses - McDonald's locations in Ada and Canyon Counties will give people a special free treat today.

From 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., customers can get a free order of fries in honor of J. R. Simplot, who died last month at the age of 99.

A Simplot Company employee discovered a method for freezing French Fries, which led to a revolution in serving the potato dish at restaurants around the country. The owners of the local McDonald's franchise thought today's giveaway would be a good way to honor Simplot's legacy
