Burger King asks: Would you like chips with that?

July 27, 2007
Burger King (BKC) will let potato-chip fans have it their way this fall with snacks in Ketchup &Fries and Flame-Broiled burger flavors.
To get more exposure, the fast-food chain has licensed its brand for a line of chips to Inventure Group (SNAK). That company manufacturers and distributes snacks under a variety of labels, including a dozen varieties of T.G.I. Friday's-branded chips that alone are a $100 million retail business.
One-ounce, 100-calorie packs will be sold in vending machines — and also test-marketed in Burger King stores in the Northeast as a better-for-you option in value meals such as grilled chicken.
"With certain products, this might be the more pertinent side item,"Klein says. "We'll see how it works as a substitute for medium fries."
