Descripción de la variedad

Elland is an early maincrop variety with excellent processing characteristics. Oval – long-oval tubers with shallow eyes ideally suited for chipping. Regular tuber shape and skin brightness give potential in the prepack sector.

Agronomic Features

Elland produces high yields of regular-shaped tubers. Elland has resistance to PCN G. pallida as well as bruising and external damage. Elland shows excellent resistance to C. scab and Blackleg as well as most skin blemish diseases.

Tuber Characteristics

  • Shape: The tubers are oval to round, with a consistent shape that is beneficial for uniform cooking.
  • Size: Medium-sized tubers, with a uniformity that supports high yields.
  • Skin: Light brown to beige, smooth, and relatively thin, making it easy to peel.
  • Eyes: Shallow eyes, reducing waste during preparation.
  • Flesh: Pale yellow to creamy white, with a fine, smooth texture.

Disease and Pest Resistances

  • Late Blight (Phytophthora infestans): Elland potatoes have good resistance to late blight, particularly in the foliage. This makes them less susceptible to this widespread and potentially devastating disease, which is a significant advantage in areas prone to wet conditions.
  • Common Scab (Streptomyces scabies): The variety shows moderate resistance to common scab, a bacterial infection that causes rough, corky patches on the tuber surface. This resistance helps maintain the appearance and quality of the tubers.
  • Powdery Scab (Spongospora subterranea): Elland has some resistance to powdery scab, a disease that affects the roots and tubers, causing unsightly scabs and potentially leading to yield loss.
  • Blackleg (Pectobacterium spp.): This variety shows some resistance to blackleg, a bacterial disease that causes blackened stems and tuber rot.
  • Nematodes (Globodera spp.): Elland potatoes have moderate resistance to certain types of potato cyst nematodes, particularly Globodera pallida, which can cause significant damage to potato crops by attacking the roots.
  • Dry Rot (Fusarium spp.): The variety has some resistance to dry rot, a fungal disease that can cause significant storage losses by affecting the tubers post-harvest.
