As of October 2024, 12 new potato varieties were added to the State Register of Plant Varieties Suitable for Distribution in Ukraine during 2024. Four of these varieties are of French selection, four are German, and four are Dutch.

Among the registered varieties:

• Corinna (Germany)
• Cayman (Netherlands)
• Edony (France)
• Euroviva (Germany)
• Decibel (France)
• Hermosa (Netherlands)
• Heraclea (Netherlands)
• Virginia (Germany)
• Ventana (Germany)

In total, this register contains about 230 varieties of potatoes. Ukrainian potato growers need to adapt to new weather conditions. The climate change process affects not only the south and east of the country, but also the northern regions, which are more climatically favorable for potatoes. 

According to the director of HZPC Ukraine Igor Chechitko, professional potato producers responded to weather challenges by actively implementing irrigation systems and correctly applying protective agents. In addition, Ukrainian farmers are increasingly interested in drought-resistant potato varieties.
