Canadian Province of Newfoundland Seeking Proposals from Farmers for Large-Scale Potato Production
Canadian Province of Newfoundland looking for large-scale potato farmers
The provincial government is taking applications for 'Requests for Proposals' for farmers interested in large-scale potato production at a number of newly-cleared farmland properties on the island.
The areas include Junction Brook and Dead Water Brook near Deer Lake and Glenwood in central Newfoundland.
The areas include approximately 700 acres of cleared, agricultural Crown land with the potential for more than 230 acres of potatoes annually. That's the equivalent of 120 tractor-trailer loads – 15 million pounds – of potatoes according to the government.
Preference will be given to proposals for potato production and associated crops used in rotation with potato production. The deadline for receipt of RFPs is April 26th.
