The Covered Bridge Potato Chip Co received the New Exporter Award, one of four awards recognizing excellence in exporting for New Brunswick companies.

The Export Achievement awards were presented in Fredericton by Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters regional vice-president David Plante and Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud on Thursday evening.

Only two years old, in the past year the Covered Bridge Potato Chip Company went international, expanding into the United States.

Now available in all Canadian provinces as well as nine states, ranging as far south as Texas, the kettle chips are distributed by major retailers such as Sobeys, Winners, HomeSense and Bulk Barn.

Their chips are available in more than 500 stores in the Maritimes. They have also partnered with Global Specialty Foods, an American wholesale giant.

In its first year of business the startup increased its revenue 12-fold, going from selling a few hundred bags a week to 8,000-10,000.

According to the company's website, it sell six flavours of all-natural, trans fat- and gluten-free kettle chips, as well as three flavours of tortilla chips.

The company, co-founded by brothers Matthew and Ryan Albright and their cousin Shaun, is part of Albright Farms Inc. The family farm in Hartland grows 500 acres of potatoes and all the chips come from their sweet potatoes and russet burbanks.
