Agrico highlights Polish connection at variety and seedling exhibition

Noviembre 08, 2011
Agrico presents their varieties and seedlings this year in special setting highlighting their Polish connection. The variety and seedling exhibition will be held on 10 and 11 November at Agrico Research.

For Agrico's breeding and research business, this event is to be a test of competence, because Agrico Research BV, in collaboration with associated breeders, is responsible for the development of new potato varieties for the markets in which Agrico is active.

Poland is an important market for Agrico. The country is one of the 10 largest potato-growing countries in the world. Together with its subsidiary Agrico Polska SP. z.o.o., Agrico has achieved a strong position in this potato country by introducing and marketing Agrico varieties. Knowing this, you will not be surprised to hear that during this edition of the variety and seedling exhibition, Poland and two remarkable varieties for this specific market will be in the spotlight.

Breeders, growers, agents, potato processors and interested parties from over fifty countries will be travelling to Bant on November 10 and 11 to assess the most recent breeding results. This creates a platform for Agrico’s youngest varieties and seedlings before an exceptionally critical ‘audience’. For instance, visitors will be presented with a very early and high yielding Pallida resistant (potato cyst nematodes) variety for French fries production. And what to make of a new crisping and table variety, which is very well suited for early destinations as well as for a second crop. In addition, Agrico will be presenting an early, red-skinned ware variety for East European markets in particular. Moreover, Agrico will show you a very strong ware variety for the Mediterranean area.

In Bant these new potato varieties will be presented ‘underground’ in the relaxed Polish surroundings of the Wieliczka Salt mine. Salt extraction was first reported in this area in 1044 and it is therefore one of the oldest salt mines in the world. The mine is famous for its salt sculptures and it is not without reason that it is listed on the World Heritage List. It is in this setting that you can take a look Agrico's latest additions to the National List of Varieties.
