UK's government cuts won’t stretch to Potato Council's levy funding
Potato growers gathered together for an update on the latest legislative, technical and environmental issues facing their sector at the East Midlands Potato Day held near Spalding in Lincolnshire. Teresa Rush reports.
Potato Council chairman Allan Stevenson has reassured growers that the organisation’s core funding would not be affected by recently announced Government spending cuts.
Speaking at a Potato Council/QV Foods/McCain Foods-organised potato day at A.H. Worth’s Manor Farm, Holbeach Hurn, Lincolnshire, Mr Stevenson said the Potato Council was a Non-Departmental Public Body, wholly funded by industry via statutory levy payments. The Council, however, would still face challenges as a result of the cuts.
