Major nutrients, also known as macronutrients, are those that are consumed by plants in the greatest quantities. Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium are Major Plant Nutrients.

Nitrogen is needed during vegetative formation and then for tuber growth and yield, when it ensures optimal carbohydrate production in the leaves.

Phosphorus is particularly important in early growth stages. It is mobile within the plant and promotes root and shoot development.

Out of all the macronutrients, Potassium has the most crucial role in potato crop as it is critical for high yields as it influences the transport of nutrients and the movement of carbohydrates from the leaf to the tuber and good overall plant health.
