Research Station promises Kufri (Northern India) low cost potato chips
四月 09, 2013
In order to prepare various types of potato chips at lower costs, a potato processing plant and retail center has been opened at the Central Potato Research Station (CPRS) in Kufri, high in the mountains in Northern India. Kufri may also sound familia since several Indian potato varieties carry its name.

The potato processing plant, retail center and a potato park were inaugurated by the ICAR’s deputy director general of horticulture N K Krishna Kumar on Monday, April 8.

The object of the potato processing plant in Kufri will be to prepare golden chips from potatoes processed here.

In his addresses to the gathering, Director of the Potato Research Center, Dr. Veerpal Singh said, a variety of potato chips will be made here and will be sold at lesser price, as compared to the other brand chips selling in the market.

He further stated that these chips will be simple and less spicy and will be sold at the Research Center’s retail outlet in Chini Bangla (Kufri’s tourist hub) wherefrom tourists and locals will be able to purchase them.

Dr. Veerpal also informed that interested locals will be taught the technique of making these low cost potato chips so that they can sell them for profit and become self-reliant in the long run.
