Potato Yields in Norway lower

In Norway potato yields for 2012 are expected to be lower. The predictions are based on the potato yields from 90 different fields in the 7 most important potato districts in Norway and include a range of varieties.

The potato yield predictions for 2012 give us an expectation of 12% lower yields than in 2011, and 5% less than the average from the last 10 years.

The quality looks generally good, but there will be some potato lots with scab and growth cracks due to the growing season. The main reason for lower yields is late planting in eastern Norway, representing 37% of the total potato area. There are still too many small sized potatoes, and the best yield outcome depends on good and dry weather the next weeks.

The varieties checked are: Asterix, Beate, Fakse, Folva, Gullauge, Kerrs Pink, Laila, Pimpernel og Van Gogh.
