Potato crop losses in Victoria (AU) due to flooding
二月 07, 2011
Potato farmers near Koo Wee Rup, south-east of Melbourne, say their crops have been wiped out by the flooding on the weekend.

The area received over 150 millimetres of rain.

Farmland was heavily flooded and the there is little sign the floodwaters are receding.

Laura Bowles of the Victorian Potato Growers Council says the losses are devastating.

She says some farmers may lose their entire crops and a year of income.

"The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) will contact the farmers to see whether they can supply any help,"she said.

"We'll be doing what we can, when we can, but it's all a bit hard at the moment."
