The Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) has mandated a fast-food labelling law, becoming the first state to do so.
The new law requires all major fast-food retailers of the state to display kilojoule information.
Effective 1 February 2011 with a 12-month implementation period, the law also requires any standard food outlet with 20 or more stores in NSW or 50 or more stores nationally to comply with the rule.
The move follows the recently held Fast Food Forum to give consumers better nutritional information at the point of sale.
