Greenvale AP Wins Green Award at Fenland Enterprise Business Awards
For Greenvale AP, the UK’s leading supplier of fresh potatoes, environmental issues are at the very heart of the business, and earlier this month they were formally recognised for their efforts when they were awarded the Fenland Enterprise Business Green Award for their Floods Ferry site in Cambridgeshire.
Environmental Manager Jessica Cranthorne said: “We are delighted to have received this award. The environmental success we have achieved at our Cambridgeshire site has been a huge team effort. Although particular praise needs to go to Ray Grint (Site Services) for his dedication to improving recycling across the site, and Adrian Dickson (Engineering Manager) for his work in rolling out high tech LED lighting”.

The installation of LED lighting from UK company Low Energy Designs has seen a 65% reduction in energy use at the Cambridgeshire site. There has also been a secondary benefit of better visibility in the factory which has both improved safety conditions for the workers and made potato grading easier, therefore providing a higher quality product for customers.
Another exciting partnership is with Wind Direct, with whom Greenvale have made an application for planning permission on their Cambridgeshire site for wind turbines which would provide approximately 40% of the site’s electricity. Previously, Greenvale AP won Best Carbon Reduction Strategy at the Tesco Greening Our Supply Chain Awards for their group wide Green15 initiative.
