The European Commission (EC) approved on Wednesday the acquisition of a majority stake in Austrian potatoes processing firm Frisch &Frost Nahrungsmittel-Gesellschaft by Dutch food producer LWM Potatoes, a unit of Lamb Weston/Meijer.

The EC has found that the transaction would not interfere with competition in the deep-frozen potatoes sector, it said.

Under the terms of the deal, announced on 10 May 2010, LWM Potatoes is buying 74% in Frisch & Frost from RWA Raiffeisen Ware Austria, a wholesaler and services firm of warehousing cooperatives in Austria, part of the German agricultural and industrial goods wholesaler and retailer BayWa AG (ETR:BYW).

BayWa said in May it was selling the control of Frisch &Frost to focus on trading and logistics in core areas of agriculture, building materials and energy.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
