UK sees lowest potato production in years

The British Potato Council’s provisional estimate of Total Potato Production in Great Britain for the 2007 crop year is 5.446 million tons, down 1% from 2006. The current crop has a planted area that is 3% higher than last year, but average yields per hectare are 4% lower, giving a total production that is 1% below the figure for 2006. The total potato production in 2007 is the lowest seen in many years.
