Averis New Shareholder of Breeders Trust
The breeding company Averis, located in Veendam, has joined Breeders Trust as a shareholder. Breeders Trust supports participating companies in protecting and enforcing plant breeder rights and contract terms. The organization provides the international potato sector with information about the risks of using uncertified seed potatoes and the associated rights and obligations.
Breeders Trust actively ensures that royalties are paid for the propagation of breeder-protected varieties and that trade occurs in compliance with applicable regulations. In doing so, Breeders Trust contributes to the continuity of developing new varieties with better and more sustainable production traits.
Marleen de Rond, Managing Director of Averis:
"For 75 years, Averis has been the specialist in profitable and sustainable potato varieties. Today, we provide several varieties with dual resistance to Phytophthora. Our new strategy is focused on strengthening our foundation, leveraging innovation, and expanding our horizons. Joining Breeders Trust is a logical step in light of this strategy."
Corné van Beers, Managing Director of Breeders Trust:
"Enforcement activities are time-consuming and costly, requiring persistence. Respecting breeders’ rights has nothing to do with competition but is a collective interest, not only for the entire potato sector but for society as a whole."
