Starch Manufacturer Royal Avebe starts potato campaign
This week, the first potatoes will arrive for Royal Avebe's potato campaign. This means that for the coming months, potatoes will be delivered to the factories six days a week. Here, the potatoes from Avebe's farmer members will be processed into potato starch and potato protein.
This potato starch and protein yields high-quality ingredients for (plant-based) foods, packaging materials, construction products and animal feed. For example, the ingredients can be found in coatings for pizza boxes, as an egg substitute in baked goods and in plant-based dairy products such as yoghurt and cheese.
Potato campaign 2024-2025
In the Netherlands, the factory in Gasselternijveen was the first to start supplying and processing potatoes. The factory in Ter Apelkanaal will start in mid-September. In Germany, the supply and processing of potatoes will also start this week at the factory in Dallmin. The factory in Lüchow will start in early September.
Nothing can be said about the expected harvest at the moment. For growers, 2024 was the second wet spring in a row. This means that there are major regional differences in emergence and growth. From May onwards, the weather conditions for growth improved. In general, the crops are now doing well.
