Earlier this week the USDA has released their latest estimates of the 2011 fall potato production in the United States.

The total amount of fall potatoes produced in the US (2011) is forecast at 385 million cwt (17,46 million tons) up 5% from last year.
The area harvested is up 6% compared to 2010 at 938,500 acres (380.000 hectares)

The forecasted yield is 6% below last years yield at 410 cwt per acre (45,95 ton/hectare)

The potato production in 2011 is 424 million cwt (19.23 million tons) if you include all seasons.
 

Below you find the potato production yield and acreage for the top 10 potato producing US states. Note the dominant role of Idaho and Washington in the US potato production. Yield in the west improved compared to last year while yield in the mid and east of the US typically was lower.
