Senior Research Analyst at International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)
World Potato Congress Inc. Webinar in English & Spanish on potato losses on December 12
World Potato Congress Inc. is pleased to present the Webinar: "Opening the Black Box of Losses in the Potato Value Chain" presented by Luciana Delgado, December 12, 2023 at 9:00 am Eastern Standard Time (USA/Canada). The presentation in Spanish will follow at 10:00 am Eastern Standard Time (USA/Canada)
Presentation Outline
The level of hunger and lack of access to healthy diets requires that they increase efficiency in the way they produce. Reduction of food loss and waste could play a crucial role in this regard.
Despite progress, there is little measurement of the magnitude of the problem and the identification of the reasons and critical points across value chains. The scarcity of data compounds this challenge.
Acknowledging the inadequacies in current classifications and methodologies of measurement for improved data collection, the presentation addresses the measurement gap by proposing and testing innovative methodologies, encompassing quantity, quality, and value losses.
It aims to identify the reasons behind these losses and where they occur. To effectively combat food loss, tailored policies must target specific commodities and contexts. Finally, they will showcase an app developed for efficient measurement of food losses at the producer level.
