These initiatives include not only innovative projects at the processing level aiming to optimize resources use but also successful measures are taken together with farmers to protect biodiversity and soil health as well as reduce food waste. The report also stresses efforts made by EUPPA members when it comes to health and safety.

EUPPA shares in its 2021 Sustainability Report its vision to enable the sector to continue sourcing and processing potatoes in the most sustainable way possible while maintaining the competitiveness of the industry. A coherent legislative framework especially when it comes to food loss and waste reduction is an important component of this vision.

In-depth impact assessments to measure the effects of initiatives aiming to reduce pesticide use on the potato processing sector is another element put forward in the report. EUPPA also advocates for incentives to ensure a sustainable and fair income for farmers.

Further, EUPPA members support the set-up of a single, harmonized, and voluntary front-of-pack nutrition labeling system in the EU in order to further enhance information to consumers.
